Winston Churchill said that we first shape our buildings, and then our buildings shape us. That’s a pretty important statement, conferring yet another responsibility on the architect/designer—perhaps the most important one yet. We are in essence entrusted with the mental and spiritual well being of our clients. I take that charge seriously.

Lee Luxford, AIA, RIBA Associate, has an international design practice with a portfolio that includes projects in the United States and Canada as well as in the United Kingdom and Europe. Those projects, both new construction and renovation, range from small- to medium-scale residences and multi-family complexes. Urban design and redevelopment comprise the majority of her experience, a reflection of her love for inner cities and her desire to see them thrive. As someone who has been on the client side of a building project several times, she also has a strong sense of fiscal responsibility and a keen appreciation for budget constraints.

The ability to solve spatial problems is one of her greatest strengths; the skill to integrate lifestyle and design is one of her special talents. She knows the value of establishing a relationship that allows her to understand clients well enough to create exactly the kind of space they need but may not necessarily be able to articulate. Her talent is being able to elevate simplicity to elegance, to imbue lean minimalism with tactile warmth.
